Bowen Medical Services >> Frequently Asked Questions
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are covers difficult to use?
No. The cover for blood pressure cuffs can be placed on the cuff like putting it into an envelope. It takes about 20 seconds. To remove it is peeled off and takes only a few seconds.
Do covers alter readings?
Cuff-Guard does not alter readings. Prior to manufacturing we tested the covers in a controlled setting and found no alteration in readings from the original equipment. Other covers may alter readings and be sure to ask if they have any documentation that their products do not alter readings. Some disposables have reported up to 25% deviation due to body temperature causing stretch.
Are all re-used blood pressure cuffs contaminated?
Yes. ALL research tells that the BP cuff used from patient to patient are contaminated and often bloody. The only medical devices to touch patients without cleaning are the BP cuff and stethoscope. Both are almost always contaminated. Cuffs have Velcro closure and this material makes it difficult if not impossible to disinfect. Body fluids are actually pressed into the fabric with each inflation of the cuff.
What if my BP cuff does not fit?
We make 6 standard sizes from newborn to Thigh. We can also custom make covers to fit any odd size cuff .
In the event of a chemical exposure or biological attack, how can you prevent cross contamination with a blood pressure cuff?
Cuff-Guard is the only cost effective, easy to use product to prevent cross contamination.
Has anyone become infected through exposure to arm contamination?
We spoke with a rescue worker that states he caught Hepatitis C from a patient through tiny cuts on his arms. He laments that he did not have Arm-Guard to protect his exposed arms and would have prevented his exposure to this often fatal disease.
